Sacmi (www.sacmi.com) the industry's leading manufacturer of compression molding equipment for closures, created a breakthrough process which combines compression molding and blow molding that delivers significant advantages over conventional processes, providing enhanced quality, higher productivity, sustainability benefits and the potential for lightweighting. Sacmi, the original developer of the process, collaborated with Amcor Rigid Plastics (world's leading producer of rigid plastic packaging) in year long project to adapt the technology for pharmaceutical packaging and have commercialized the industry's first Compression Blow Forming (CBF) machine for the production of rigid HDPE pharmaceutical bottles.

On Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at the Toronto Board of Trade, The Consul General of Italy, Gianni Bardini, and the Toronto office of the Italian Trade Commission, hosted a cocktail reception to welcome the new Italian Trade Commissioner in Canda, Ascal Bova and to officially launch the Italian Trade Commission's newest book in the series The Italian Edge entitled Technology for Sustainability.

I had the opportunity last summer to be part of an intriguing strategic business initiative in the packaging sector: The Italian Trade Commission’s student trip to tour Italy and its packaging machinery builders. The business strategy behind this program is a long-term one, and we in the U.S. might do well to study it because of the way it fosters the kind of multinational relationships that seem so increasingly important in today’s global economy.
