CHICAGO – The Italian Trade Commission's Chicago Office (ITC), represented through its project Machines Italia, will be one of the major sponsors of the World Business Forum 2010 (October 5 th and 6 th).
On the second day of the Forum (October 6th) during the official program itself, Dr. Luca Majocchi, former CEO of Unicredit, one of Italy's major commercial banking institutions, and currently managing director of Meccano SpA as well as an advisor to FEDERMACCHINE (Italy's National Federation of Associations of Manufacturers of Capital Goods Intended for Industrial and Handicrafts Manufacturing Processes) will present, for the first time ever, the Transatlantic Survey of C-Level Executives of North American and European manufacturers entitled "Challenges Of Global Manufacturing: Improving North American And European Competitiveness Through Cooperation".
The Italian Trade Commission via its Chicago Office together with the Forum's organizers HSM Americas conducted this extensive two-month survey among top multinational companies within North America and Europe assessing the trends and industry shifts currently impacting their respective manufacturing industries.
Dr. Majocchi will focus on the following points during the presentation:
• In the recovery from the economic crisis, corporations in both North America and Europe will rely on export as the main driver for growth, as domestic demand is expected to be weak.
• In this context, producers of capital goods will play a role, as OECD countries have to reengineer their existing manufacturing base, while new production capacity has to be built in Asia. With its strong machinery industry, Europe is well positioned to exploit this opportunity.
• As global competition evolves, North American producers of finished goods and European equipment manufacturers will have the opportunity to grow stronger through cooperation by exploiting the know how embedded into equipments to manufacture and market competitive products.

Also on October 6th, the ITC via its Machines Italia project, along with its association partners, are sponsoring Joseph Stiglitz, 2001 Nobel Prize winner for Economics, former chief economist for the World Bank, professor, and author of numerous books, including his latest work "Freefall: America, Free Markets, and the Sinking of the World Economy".
This discussion is part of an executive lunch taking place on the same day of the Forum (October 6th) at New York's celebrated 21 Club. Pasquale Bova, Trade Commissioner of the Italian Trade Commission's Chicago Office, will welcome and introduce Prof. Stiglitz. Following his remarks, Stiglitz will engage the audience in a Q & A panel with Italian panel members featuring Dr. Luca Majocchi, Dr. Alberto Sacchi, President of FEDERMACCHINE; and Prof. Luigi Serio, Director of Italy's prestigious business school FONDAZIONE ISTUD.
The luncheon will also serve as the occasion to introduce attendees to the engaging presentation to take place later the same day by Dr. Luca Majocchi.
As a sponsor of the World Business Forum New York 2010, the ITC via its project has also produced its captivating video series Machines Italia. The series tells the stories of how Italian solution providers and North American companies together are "Turning Innovation into Productivity," demonstrating ways in which local North American manufacturers employ Italian innovation to achieve sustainable, responsible production solutions.
