High expectations for automotive production in Mexico for 2024

The director of the Mexican Automotive Industry Association AMIA, reported that in 2024 the automotive industry will manufacture between 3.9 and 4 million vehicles, surpassing the 3.8 million units manufactured in 2018.

"In addition to the production of conventional gasoline-powered vehicles, we began this June the manufacture of Toyota's hybrid Tacoma. With this, we expect to produce 150,000 electric vehicles in the country by 2024."

June also represented a month of growth for automotive brands, as 295,742 vehicles were exported abroad, an increase of 3.3% compared to the same month last year.

"During the first half of the year, exports reached 1.7 million vehicles, representing a 10.7% growth compared to the same period last year. Currently, automotive plants are operating at 95% of their capacity."

The Mexican automotive industry shows a solid performance in 2024, with growth in production, exports and domestic sales. The trend is positive, especially in segments such as SUVs and pickups. Challenges include adapting to the demand for electric vehicles and maintaining competitiveness in a global context.
