A new report from the Italian embassy in Washington DC, highlights Georgia’s growing appeal for Italian investors in the U.S. With 81 subsidiaries, Georgia trails top states like New York and Florida but leads its Southeastern neighbors, except North Carolina (114 subsidiaries). Nine Italian firms in Georgia employ over 100 workers, and 34 have more than 10. The broader Southern region—from Delaware to Texas—outpaces other U.S. areas in attracting Italian investment. Researchers identified 3,519 U.S. affiliates of Italian firms, employing over 250,000 people and generating $139 billion in revenue. Ownership is often obscured by financial structures in Luxembourg or the Netherlands. Italian conglomerates like Enel and Autogrill stand out, while brands like Pirelli operate autonomously despite foreign ownership. The report also shows that 73% of Italian subsidiaries in the U.S. originate from Italy’s industrialized Northwest and Northeast regions. Ambassador Mariangela Zappia emphasized Italy’s commitment to expanding investment in innovative sectors like biotech and aerospace.
