Italian aerospace leader Avio has chosen Virginia for its new $500 million U.S. production facility, marking a major expansion into the defense and space sectors. The 860,000-square-foot site will manufacture solid-propellant rocket motors for tactical propulsion, missile systems, and space applications. Avio USA, founded in 2022, aims to meet rising demand amid limited domestic production capacity. Backed by a €400 million capital increase, the project strengthens Avio’s U.S. footprint and supports contracts with the U.S. Armed Forces, Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin. CEO Giulio Ranzo emphasized the company’s commitment to bolstering the U.S. industrial base with decades of engineering expertise. Final site details within Virginia are expected early this year. This strategic move positions Avio as a key transatlantic player in advanced propulsion systems, reinforcing Italy’s role in global aerospace innovation.
