Mexico Enters The Top 10 Worldwide For Attracting Foreign Direct Investment

During 2025, global Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) flows recorded a 6% increase, reaching $1.6 trillion compared to the $1.5 trillion recorded in 2024. Excluding conduit flows, these figures were about 10% higher than the average reported between 2010 and 2024. In the global ranking, the United States led the list with $277 billion, followed by Singapore with $151 billion, Hong Kong with $116 billion, China with $105 billion, and Brazil with $77 billion.

In this global scenario, Mexico managed to secure the tenth place worldwide, attracting $41 billion in 2025. According to the World Investment Report 2026, presented by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the country remains the preferred destination for manufacturing investments linked to nearshoring.

However, the Latin America and the Caribbean region suffered a significant contraction in the development of new projects, with their estimated value falling by a third, dropping from approximately $170 billion in 2024 to less than $120 billion in 2025. UNCTAD warned that the reduction in the volume and value of new announcements in Mexico reveals a more cautious position among investors, mainly motivated by political and trade uncertainty in export-oriented sectors.
