Sustainable farming with methane-powered tractor
The year 2020 is a special one for New Holland (Turin, Italy, www.newholland.com). This year, the company marks 125 years of helping farms and the construction industry work more efficiently and productively with power equipment.
New Holland , following concerns about the environment, is pro- viding more solutions to improve customers’ efficiency by promoting renewable fuels, emissions reduction and sustainable agricultural technology. New Holland offers farmers a choice of products that al- low them to better manage their soil, control water resources, optimize production and cultivate clean energy sources.
While New Holland’s tractors, harvesters, sprayers, balers, ma- nure spreaders and more are manufactured around the world and sold by thousands of dealers globally, including in North America, its current administrative headquarters are in Turin, Italy along with offices of its parent company CNH Industrial (Turin, Italy, www. cnhindustrial.com).
With a focus on clean energy, New Holland unveiled a concept autonomous tractor, the NHDrive, in August 2016. Using lessons learned from that concept tractor, autonomous technology has been placed into practical, commercial applications across the New Hol- land product lineup—from the IntelliTurn end-of-row turning feature available on many tractors, to the IntelliSense automation system for CR Revelation combines.
In February 2020, New Holland introduced its newest, most con- nected tractor, the T9 Series with Precision Land Management (PLM) Intelligence. The PLM Intelligence platform is New Holland’s solution

for connected and precision farming. It is designed to provide real- time connectivity to the New Holland dealer; improve profitability through remote software updates, diagnostics and data integration; and increase machine uptime. PLM Intelligence delivers guidance, an
easy-to-use operator interface, and decision-making capability from data analytics.
New Holland’s also promotes renewable energy, unveiling its T6 Methane Power Tractor at the Agritechnica exhibition, where its precursor, the T6 Methane Powered Concept tractor, was crowned Sustainable Tractor of the Year 2020. New Holland said that its T6

delivers the performance of its diesel equivalent with up to 30% low- er running costs. According to the company, the T6 Methane Power tractor produces 99% less particulate matter than an equivalent die- sel and reduces carbon dioxide emissions by a minimum of 10% and overall emissions by 80%.
Another business unit, New Holland Construction, offers solutions for the building industry. Among its lineup are compact excavators and high-productivity backhoes as well as skid steer loaders, com- pact track loaders, compact wheel loaders and tractor loaders for landscaping and material handling work.
For residential construction, New Holland offers a line of SMART equipment and attachments for precision, control and maneuver- ability. In this line, New Holland offers compact excavators, compact wheel loaders, and maneuverable, multi-use loader backhoes for site preparation, foundation and grading work. Among New Holland Con- struction’s most recent new equipment offerings are the C245 Super Boom compact track loader. Also new in the compact track loader line is the C237.
To help maintain a user’s group of vehicles, New Holland of- fers its FleetForce Telematics system. It is web-based and enables remote monitoring applications and detailed information about equipment for remote fleet management. New Holland is a mem- ber of UNACEA (Rome, Italy, www.unacea.org).
As the world demands more energy-efficient, capable, cost-ef- fective machines, Italian producers are integrating new technology to meet these needs. The result is more choices for end-users.
