 USMCA survey says Italian machinery is durable and high quality
The Italian Trade Agency commissioned an awareness study from SME on how well Italian manufacturing equipment is thought of by current USMCA owners. The results of the 2020 study were published in an insightful analysis, entitled

Current Usage and Reasons
for Purchase of Italian Machinery
Over two-in-five respondents (42%) indicated that they are current users of Italian machinery, on-par with 2018 at 48%. Respondents from the United States indicate a significantly higher usage of Italian machinery at 53% compared to the study average, while Canada and Mexico are significantly lower than the study average at 13% and 34%, respec-

tively. However, when comparing North America in its entirety from 2015 and 2020, current usage of Italian machinery has increased 68%.
Respondents that work in com- panies with 500 or more employees are significantly more likely than the study average (42% more likely) to be current users of Italian machinery, as are companies with

Overall Strengths of Italian Machinery
Among those with final purchase authority, Italian machinery scores highly for durability among Plant and General Managers. Those working in the Manufacturing Engineering Department rate Italian machinery significantly above the study average for service after the sale (26% study average vs. 55% Italian machinery). Owners, Company Management,and Corporate Executives currently using Italian machinery rate their equipment highly for high-quality products (72%) and companies being well established in the market (42%), while three-in-five current Manufacturing Product Department users rate Italian machinery among the top as industry leaders.

Overall, respondents indicated that the top three reasons for purchasing Italian machinery are reputation (53%), quality (51%), and value for the money (48%). Over half of the respondents (56%) also indicated that Italian machinery and equipment allows their company to do new things.
Companies from the Aerospace Products and Parts category are 200% more likely than the study average to purchase Italian machin- ery because “companies are well established in the industry,” while companies in the Furniture & Fixtures industries are 194% more likely to do so because Italian companies are “industry leaders.” Companies in the Plastics & Rubber industries indicated they are 197% more likely
