Expanding the Art of Additive from Italy
Other than perhaps the complete upheaval of knowledge acquisition by advances in computing and semiconduc- tor technology, few developments have revolutionized changes in manufacturing thinking and action like addi-
tive manufacturing (AM) or, if you prefer, 3D printing.
Italy is a robust member of this movement. In 2014, thanks to the
initiative of leading Italian AM companies and institutions, AITA, the Italian Association of Additive Technologies (Cinisello Balsamo, Italy, www.aita3d.it), was born.
A spinoff of the UCIMU-SISTEMI PER PRODURRE (Cinisello Balsamo, Italy, www.ucimu.it), AITA is open to anyone interested in furthering AM technologies, including advanced manufacturing processes and material sciences, and currently boasts more than 120 member companies.
This devotion to all things additive helps explain why AITA has sponsored a new initiative, piùAdditive, an “exhibition project dedicated to the production chain of additive technologies” that will be hosted at 33.BI-MU in Milan, Italy, October 12-15, 2022, (www. bimu.it/en/). That’s according to the event’s website, which offers insights from several leading experts and exhibitors at the biennial exhibition held at the Fiera Milano hall.
One of these will be Paolo Calefati, head of additive manufacturing and innovation at Prima Additive Srl (Torino, Italy, www.primaaddi- tive.com), a recently formed business unit of Prima Industrie SpA (Torino, Italy, www.primaindustrie.com). During an interview for the event, he stated that Prima Additive’s goal is to reduce the introduc- tion barriers to AM technologies by cutting investment and operating costs, improving efficiency, and providing services to customers
ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING
Additive manufacturing (AM) is at the heart of rethinking design and production in Italy and globally.
