Mexico, leading recipient of FDI in aerospace

MEXICO CITY (August 7, 2013) - Above China and India, Mexico is placed as the number one country in attracting Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in the aerospace industry, which contributes 10% of manufacturing GDP.

"It is not the automotive industry, it is the aerospace industry, we attract 1,300 million dollars (mdd) approximately every year. There were $15,000 million dollars and more $6,000 million dollars, there are $21,000 million dollars for the aerospace industry in Mexico", said the Director of the Mexican Federation of the Aerospace Industry (Femia), Carlos Bello after highlighting that "we are the tenth supplier in the United States".

Carlos Bello at a press conference in Queretaro, where the third edition of Mexico's Aerospace Summit, to be held on August 26 and 27 in Queretaro, was announced, said that 24 new projects will be launched with new investments in the states of Nuevo Leon, Baja California, Chihuahua, Sonora and Queretaro.

During his presentation of the National Strategic Plan for the next seven years at the Entrepreneur's Week, which is being held at the Banamex Center in this city, Carlos Bello commented that work will be done on five strategies: Development of foreign trade, strengthening and development of national industry capacity, development of human capital, technological development and development of transversal factors (education, industry and government).

With this, he said, the aerospace industry has the challenge for 2020 to achieve the following goals:

1.- To be within the top 10 places internationally, today Mexico is in fourteenth place. In fact, to be placed above Brazil and Spain.

2.- Exports of more than $12,000 million dollars annually, today amounting to $5,400 million dollars.

3.- Having 110,000 jobs, 50% of which are engineers.

4.- National integration of 50%, currently 9.5% and 10%.

5.- To reach 48,000 million dollars of FDI.

It is worth mentioning that the National Strategic Plan was prepared by benchmarking three countries: Canada, Brazil and Spain, the latter has a great development in the defense industry, a market whose value is between four and five times greater than commercial aviation (600,000 million dollars annually) and in which our country is seeking to grow with the support of the federal government.

Carlos Bello ended his presentation by highlighting that the aerospace industry is working to update and develop the regulatory framework, as well as in the regulation of laws.
