for rice, reported Nieves. Naturally they’ve implemented protocols to keep their employees safe during the pandemic, and “the pharmaceu- tical industry requested protocols in all machines to make sure that the products we deliver to them are not contaminated.” That’s helped by the fact that the label printer is in its own air conditioned room and “only two operators handle our whole operation,” said Nieves.
Hygiene, masks, and more
For their part in the fight against the COVID-19, OMET Srl (Lecco, Italy, https://omet.com/) has introduced two “super-productive” lines for making inter-folded tissue towels, facial tissue, napkins, and non- woven disposable products. As Marco Calcagni, sales and marketing di- rector, put it, “use of disposable products such
as toilet paper rolls, facial tissue and towels
is destined to be greater than ever in order
to ensure maximum hygiene and comply with
regulations for infection prevention. Instead
of using air dryers, the use of tissue towels in
bathrooms and kitchens make the process
completely hygienic. OMET’s Interfolded
products have been specifically designed to
allow use by a single hand, without touching
other products.”
He added that non-woven disposable
products, like dust-cloths for home use,
barbershops, and beauty salons, will also
increase in the short- to mid-term. OMET
offers its TV503 Line and MF Line produc-
tion lines, which, thanks to a non-woven
kit, allows the perfect manufacturing of this
material with exceptional production per-
formance. The OMET TV503 Line not only
processes non-woven materials continuous-
ly, but also offers inline printing (with digital
inkjet technology) for the customization of
products and allows rub lotions or scents to
be applied directly on the material during the inline process, eliminat- ing the need for offline applications.” And for an even more urgent need, the line can also be used to produce disposable masks and sheets for medical use.
Like Bobst Firenze, OMET is a member of ACIMGA, the Associa- tion for Italian Manufacturers of Machinery for the Graphic, Con- verting and Paper Industry (Milan, Italy, www.acimga.it/en). And like the Bobst presses at Alco, Calcagni said the “OMET Lines have been engineered to help operators perform a fast and easy job change- over, drastically reducing machine stop times. This allows our clients to be very flexible in offering their customers a wide range of products.”
Another ACIMGA member, Petratto Srl (Pianezza, Italy, www. petratto.com), also heard the call to increase the availability of dis- posable products for proper hygiene and increased safety. In re-
sponse, Petratto developed a dedicated manufacturing line for the production of disposable, eco-friendly paper napkin holder bags, with inserted napkins designed for the food and beverage markets. The company said the napkins are “specifically developed to pro- mote a correct level of hygiene. The Petratto Metro Napkins model is unique and fully automated and has been already purchased by key players in the industry.”
Petratto also designed an automated production line for manu- facturing disposable surgical face masks. Dubbed the “Petratto SKY,” the model is being welcomed in many markets “thanks to its reli- ability and safe construction,” said the company. “The Petratto Sky is an ideal solution for those who are transforming their manufacturing

site in response to the increased demand of disposable masks.” All Petrato machines (which include creasing, folding and gluing, die- cutting, and laser cutters) are available in the U.S. through a Miami- based dealer, Pro Cut Graphics Inc., which also provides installation and after-sales service in the U.S. and Canada.
Fellow ACIMGA member IMS Technologies SpA (Calcinate, Italy, www.imstechnologies.com) responded to the COVID-19 emergency by introducing remote assistance for their converting equipment (slitter rewinders, automatic unwinders and rewinders, spooling machines, inspection re-winders, embossing machines, packaging machines, and shrink wrapping systems). They call the service SURE, for “Service User Reliability Excellence.” IMS Group Communication Coordinator Chiara Zucchelli said there are four key points guiding their customer assistance and support: “First, a
