Canadian imports of industrial machinery and equipment (15 reference sectors Machines Italy) continue to be affected by the economic uncertainty resulting from the continuation of the pandemic and the restrictions and containment measures adopted at both the federal and provincial levels.

After a positive exploit in 2020, Canadian imports of the sector from Italy dropped by nearly 26 percent in the first three months of 2021 compared to the same period last year. down are six of the top 10 Canadian suppliers to the sector with the exception of Germany (+29 percent), China (+5.7 percent), South Korea (+14.3 percent) and France (40.1 percent).

However, the figure is partial and it appears premature to confirm the negative trend. Also in light of the continuation of the vaccination campaign (60% of those vaccinated with two doses) and relaxation of restrictive measures that began in June-July.

italy remains in fifth place among exporting countries to the U.S., with a market share of just under 5 percent.

The Made in Italy machinery sectors that showed positive growth in 2021 compared to the same period in 2020 were as follows: packaging and wrapping machinery (+31%), graphic and papermaking machinery (+17%), and woodworking machinery (+100%). The other sectors were stable or declining.
