Inauguration of Pirelli's first production plant in Mexico

During the inauguration of Pirelli's first production plant, the head of the Ministry of Economy (SE), Bruno Ferrari García de Alba, stated that the investment made by this company ratifies that investors continue to choose Mexico as one of their main productive investment destinations.

In a statement issued by said federal agency, the federal secretary informed the President of Mexico, Felipe Calderón, that from 2007 to March 2012 the country has registered close to 120 billion dollars in foreign investment.

"Despite the adverse international economic environment, Mexico has consolidated its position as one of the largest recipients of foreign direct investment, which confirms the confidence that investors have in the country," said Bruno Ferrari.

He also stated that the investment made by this firm ratifies that investors continue to choose Mexico as one of their main destinations for productive investment.

Ferrari highlighted that last year the country attracted more than 19.5 billion dollars in investment, almost nine percent more than the projection made by the United Nations (UN) in January 2010, which means that from 2007 to March 2012 Mexico has registered close to 120 billion dollars in foreign investment.

Before the world president of Pirelli, Marco Tronchetti Provera, Ferrari Garcia de Alba said that the investment of 400 million dollars will allow this Italian plant to generate close to a thousand jobs and reach an annual production of 5.5 million tires in 2017, both for the local and international market, which means that in five years this factory will be the largest in Latin America in tire production.

"Pirelli is a concrete example that Mexico is a land of opportunities, because here we offer the best conditions for doing business and for the development of companies, since we have solid finances, highly productive human capital and with a trade policy that favors exchange and international competitiveness. Mexico is at its best moment to have a more accelerated growth of its economy," he said.

In his message, Secretary Ferrari also highlighted the work being carried out by the different levels of government, companies and workers to build a stronger and more competitive economy, which allows the development of businesses and the attraction of productive investment.

He said that we will continue to work shoulder to shoulder with the country's entrepreneurs and companies to make every investment a success story.

Mexico-Italy Business Council is inaugurated

Prior to this inauguration, the Secretary of Economy and the Ambassador of the Republic of Italy in Mexico, Roberto Spinelli, witnessed the installation of the Mexico-Italy Business Council, which will strengthen the economic and trade relationship and prepare recommendations and proposals to the respective governments through the Binational Commission.

Before businessmen from both countries, headed by Roberto González Alcalá and Marco Tronchetti, Ferrari called to take advantage of the commercial potential that exists between both nations.

He said that Italy has become the third largest trading partner and the tenth largest investor among the member countries of the European Union and, since the entry into force of the free trade agreement with the EU, trade exchange has grown by 258 percent, going from almost two billion dollars in 1999 to six thousand 500 in 2011.

He also highlighted that 1,429 companies with Italian investment in Mexico have been identified, which encourages to continue taking advantage of the instruments in force of the Free Trade Agreement between Mexico and the European Union, to strengthen this trade relationship.
