BIAT 2021: Lucky N. 7
BIAT - Innovation and High Technology Lab, funded under the Cohesion Action Plan of Italy’s Economic Development Ministry, is an initiative designed to support Southern Italian startups to find partners and investors abroad. The event is organised by the Italian Trade Commission - ITA  in collaboration with key Regional Governments: Abruzzo, Molise, Sardinia, Basilicata, Campania, Calabria, Apulia and Sicily.

The focus sectors include medical, health and biotechnology, green economy (circular economy, renewable energy, environment), ICT, aerospace, innovative materials, nanotechnologies, technologies for smart cities.

The 7th edition of BIAT was held from 22 to 24 September 2021 at the Palazzo Congressi in the stunning Sicilian coastal city of Taormina within a hybrid online and in person format.

BIAT 2021 featured  92 Italian startups and innovative projects from  8 Regions of Southern Italy,  60 international investors from 26 countries (Austria, Bahrain, Canada, China, South Korea, Croatia, Denmark, United Arab Emirates, Russian Federation, Finland, France, Japan, India, Israel, Poland, Qatar, United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Singapore, Slovenia, Spain, United States, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey, Ukraine) attended, Over 600 B2B meetings took place during the course of 3 days.

2 panel discussions were organized at BIAT 2021 and featured North American speakers: 
  • Panel I: Global and Innovation trends in the start-up industry  and ecosystems, with Yuri Navarro, Kanata Ventures from Canada.
  • Panel II “Designing the Path for Future Women Leaders with York Angel’s Jennifer Renda, from Canada and USA’s Rachel Payne, FullCycle Climate Partners and Gail Christine Gannon, WaveEdge Capital.
