ITALIAN PIPELINES IN MEXICO

march 26, 2014 - In these times of tensions between Russia and Europe, the importance of gas supply infrastructure has once again become a hot topic. Therefore, the 500 million euro tender won by the Italian company Sicim de Parma for the construction of more than one thousand kilometers of gas pipelines in Mexico is very relevant.
After the construction of a 230-kilometer section of the Bicentenario gas pipeline in Colombia (worth 600 million dollars), the company - which specializes in the design and construction of infrastructure in the gas and oil sector - has been awarded a contract for the development of a 233-kilometer system in Tamazunchale (San Luis Potosí) and an 831-kilometer system in the State of Sonora. The former will transport up to 630 million cubic meters of natural gas per day and will supply the area's power plants, generating energy for almost 5 million people. The Sonora pipeline, on the other hand, will have a capacity of approximately 1,600 million cubic meters per day.
The company, which closed 2013 with a turnover of 450 million, has just over 100 employees in Italy and approximately 3,500 worldwide. It was one of the first Italian companies to develop oil and gas facilities in Latin America and its presence in the continent is already a recognized reality. In addition to Colombia and Mexico, Sicim is also completing the construction of infrastructure in Peru (worth US$30 million).
