a fundamental contribution to growth came from finished and semi-finished materials, whose foreign sales in the first 9 months of 2022 increased by 17.4% from the same period in 2021, for a total of 1,274.5 million euros.
For the finished and semi-finished products sector, the excellent health of the US market – up 30.4% from the first 9 months of 2021 – confirms its undisputed leadership among destination markets with purchases worth 381.5 million euros or 30% of the total value of Italy’s exports of slabs and finished goods.
Extremely positive was the export trend for finished stone products Made in Italy to Canada (ranked 10th, with 24.4 million, +18.3%).
The figures for the first 9 months of 2022 therefore confirm a generalized growth in Italy’s exports to almost all the major reference markets for stone products.
Italian Stone Technologies
In the first nine months of 2022 the worth of exports from Italian makers of machines, installations, tools and equipment to extract and process natural stones showed a decline on an annual basis of 3%. Revealing this was the data processed by the CONFINDUSTRIA MARMOMACCHINE Studies Center, which showed that in the period from January to September foreign sales of Italian stone technologies were worth 787.2 million euros versus the 815.3 million of the same period the previous year.
Regarding the top 10 destination countries, there was a record increase in exports to the United States (+32.3% from January-September 2021), confirmed as the leading market for Italian stone technologies with imports worth 143.1 million euros. Among the most positive notes in 2022 in exports to traditional non-EU partners, including Canada (+16.6%, seventh with 34.4 million).
