As for Mexico, imports of industrial machinery and equipment (15 reference sectors Machines Italy) are also affected by the economic uncertainty resulting from the continuation of the pandemic and the restrictions and containment measures adopted both at the federal and individual state levels.

In the January-March 2021 period, Mexican imports of the sector from Italy dropped by about 23 percent from 2020. Italy drops from fifth to sixth place among exporting countries to Mexico, with a market share of just over 6 percent. The decline affected all major Mexican suppliers to the sector except China (+20%) and South Korea (+4%) .

The Italian mechanical engineering sectors that showed positive growth in 2021 compared to the same period in 2020 were as follows: hydraulic, pneumatic and transmission components (+16%) machinery printing and paper industry (+30%), agricultural machinery (+50%). Other sectors were stable or declining.
