Fincantieri Shipyard Project In Yucatan Presented
In a meeting held on Wednesday, December 1, 2021, with the governor of the Mexican state of Yucatan, Mauricio Vila Dosal, and the Minister of Economy, Tatiana Clouthier, executives from the Italian company Fincantieri presented the project to build the largest shipyard on the American continent in the port of Progreso-situated 36 kilometers north of Mérida-as well as the benefits of this investment for the local population.

The Italian company outlined the details of the work plan, which once completed will promote economic development in the state. The expansion of the ship mechanics industry's activities will go beyond the borders of Yucatan and involve the entire southeastern region of Mexico and the rest of the country, promoting the creation of specialized labor sources and supply chains.

Fincantieri announced that it will increase the investment amount from the $150 million USD mentioned in the letter of intent to $220 million USD.

The project will provide infrastructure for ship repair, conversion and maintenance through two masonry piers, a 400-meter dry port, a lifting platform for units up to 150 meters in length and about 1,000 meters of piers, as well as cranes, workshops, special equipment, offices and warehouses.
