Opportunities in auto parts manufacturing

In his inaugural speech at the Plastimagen Mexico 2013 industrial fair, held in Mexico City last March, the president of Anipac, engineer José Anselmo del Cueto, highlighted the role of plastics in the automotive industry.

According to the executive, in this niche, the progressive replacement of traditional materials with plastic implies great fuel savings, greater comfort, lower cost and greater efficiency in passenger safety systems. This is a high value-added market, where the longevity of plastics is also highly appreciated.

Mexico's current boom in the automotive industry offers juicy opportunities for plastics manufacturers. According to the president of the National Auto Parts Industry (INA), engineer Óscar Albín, Mexico's automotive industry contributes 20% of the country's manufacturing GDP, and this is a figure that tends to grow year after year. "In 2012, total auto parts production reached 75 billion dollars, of which 10% corresponds to plastic components," confirmed the executive.

With such a positive outlook for growth, it is necessary for companies to resort to the development of supply, training and relationship strategies. To respond to this need, Tecnología del Plástico, together with its sister publication Metalmecánica(www.metalmecanica.com), will hold the third edition of the Autoparts Manufacturing Symposium, which this year will take place on August 21 and 22 at the Querétaro Congress Center.

The symposium's conference program includes keynote speeches on manufacturing technologies, which will address critical topics to meet the immediate technical training needs of auto parts manufacturers at all levels, such as keys to becoming a world-class auto parts supplier, design trends and manufacturing success stories.

One of the main focuses of the event will be the participation of assembly companies in a panel where they will address the keys to auto parts production in Mexico, new projects and production opportunities. Nissan (the largest auto parts buyer in Mexico), Ford, VW and Navistar have confirmed their attendance. Also noteworthy is the participation of leading plastic component manufacturers in a panel of experts on supply challenges in the country. Valeo Sylvania, Hella and Euwe Eugen Wexler will participate.

Another great contribution will be made by the technical conferences offered by suppliers of technology for the manufacture of components, covering cutting-edge topics in the industry: plastics in the manufacture of increasingly lighter vehicles, latest trends in injection molding, efficient manufacturing, software and simulation, among others.

Balluf de México, EAS, Iscar, JSW Plastic Machinery, Makino, Piovan de México, Renishaw and Trexel are among the companies that will present technical conferences.

The Auto Parts Manufacturing Symposium is supported by INA: "We are excited about holding this type of symposium. In Mexico, we have a vocation for automotive and auto parts manufacturing. We have positioned ourselves as the eighth largest automobile manufacturer in the world and the fifth largest auto parts manufacturer. We definitely need knowledge and we support this initiative. We are sure that the topics will be relevant and important for the managers of auto parts manufacturing plants in the country," said its president, engineer Óscar Albín.

If you are in the auto parts market or would like to enter it, the symposium will provide you with valuable networking and training tools. See program information at: www.plastico.com/autopartes
